Meet The Team

Hi! I’m James,

A bit more about me – My partner and I had our first child towards the end of 2019. Since then, I’ve been very privileged to watch our new little human grow and develop; I have loved every minute of it (yes, even the 2am wake ups). Being a dad leaves little time for much else but I always make space for some sort of mindfulness. This takes many forms for me. I enjoy spending time doing more conventional mindfulness meditation but I also try to spend as much time as possible building furniture and carving various bits and bobs from wood. I love it when the world disappears and it’s just me, my thoughts (and perhaps a spoon I’m carving!).

My journey into therapy began over ten years ago when I returned from teaching in Tokyo. I initially returned with the goal of qualifying as a teacher. I spent some time working as a behaviour mentor in primary schools and quickly changed my mind about teaching. Spending time one to one with children who were struggling with various challenges helped me to begin to understand what small people need to help them with their big feelings. I knew it had something to do with connection and relationship, so I went and studied adult person-centred counselling for a while before enrolling on the Play Therapy Masters programme. Since qualifying I have gone on to train in Filial Therapy. I would say working with whole families in this way is now my favourite part of the job. I really enjoy watching parents discover a whole new aspect to their children’s world and I love seeing parents discover that they already have what they need to help their children within themselves.
